Babyface, whose real name is Kenneth Brian Edmonds, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He has an impressive track record, having written and produced over **26 number-one R&B hits** throughout his career and winning **13 Grammy Awards**. His contributions to the music industry have been significant, and he was even ranked number 20 on NME’s list of **The Greatest Producers Ever**. Born on **April 10, 1959**, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Babyface grew up in a family of six brothers. His mother, Barbara, worked as a production operator at a pharmaceutical plant. As a shy youth, he turned to songwriting to express his emotions. Tragically, when he was in eighth grade, his father passed away from lung cancer, leaving his mother to raise her sons alone. Babyface’s musical journey began when he met funk performer Bootsy Collins, who playfully dubbed him “Babyface” due to his youthful appearance. He played guitar in the group Manchild and later joined the Deele alongside drummer Antonio “L.A.” Reid. One of his early songwriting credits for other artists was the tune “**Slow Jam**,” performed by R&B band Midnight Star in 1983.
